Executive Vice President of Transactions and General Counsel

Brian is Executive Vice President of Transactions and General Counsel for Maslow’s Campus Communities, overseeing legal and transactional activity within the company.

With more than 27 years of experience in real estate transactions and development, Brian is a leader in forming successful partnerships across the country. Brian and his team were responsible for all aspects of an on-campus transaction at American Campus Communities, from award to closing including: analysis of the appropriate financing structure (tax-exempt bonds, taxable bonds, or equity); managing feasibility, risk, and schedule; negotiating ground leases, development agreements, general construction contracts, design professional agreements and financing documents; managing entitlements, permitting, and all closing financing requirements; managing not-for-profit owner and its counsel, underwriter and underwriter counsel, trustee and bond counsel, outside company counsel and the relationships with various public client stakeholders (finance, facilities, legal and residence life).

During Brian’s tenure at ACC, the company executed more than 70 public-private partnerships transactions. Brian also managed material litigation and risk management matters, successfully settling all cases before trial or obtaining winning final judgments without trial.

Brian and his wife Beth reside in Austin and have four adult children.
