Jason Wills

Executive Vice President of Development and Corporate Responsibility

Jason is a partner and serves as the Executive Vice President of Development and Corporate Responsibility at Maslow’s Campus Communities, where he plays a leading role in the company’s development platforms along with overseeing the strategic development and implementation of the company’s corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives & reporting.

He began his 30-year student housing career as a Resident Assistant at the University of Texas at Arlington, and later as an RA and marketing coordinator with Century Development working at one of the nation’s earliest on-campus P3 student communities. As one of its longest-tenured employees, Jason was recruited by Bill Bayless and joined American Campus Communities in 1997 as a Marketing and Leasing Manager. Over his more than 28-year tenure with ACC, Jason played diverse and expanding roles in business development, corporate marketing and communication, and P3 development. After playing an active role in the company’s 2004 IPO, he went on to become the SVP of Development where he served as the lead developer on many of the company’s most prolific P3 student housing transactions.

Jason has a depth of experience working closely with university partners to customize housing solutions that best serve the student community as well as the university’s unique mission, values, design standards, financial goals, and operational needs. To date, Jason has spearheaded the development of more than 70 student communities in 20 states across the country, totaling more than 55,000 beds, 19.4 million gross square feet, and exceeding $4.25 billion in development cost.

Jason has long been passionate about responsible and sustainable development and business practices and is a firm believer that “doing the right thing” creates its own return on investment. While at ACC, he championed Environmental, Social and Governance initiatives, and organized a robust program that included the company’s annual reporting and its implementation of ESG initiatives.

Jason is recognized as a frequent speaker on student trends, P3 partnerships, and the planning and development of all types of student communities at national conferences such as Interface Student Housing, NMHC, Bisnow, NACUBO, NACAS, NASPA, ACPA, APPA and ACUHO-I.

Outside of work, Jason has served on the board of Ballet Austin since 2012, and is the board chair of Scenic Texas, a nonprofit that helps safeguard the scenic qualities of Texas roadways, countryside, and communities. He currently resides in Lakeway, Texas with his wife, Ashley, and their dogs. Jason has three adult children.
